Offset hooks are great for beginners. You can use them for a lot of different types of soft plastics.

Seems like all this tackle is geared for bass fishing. I think a beginner can't go wrong with a plain and simple bobber and live bait set-up. many of us learned to fish this way, learned how to properly tie knots, practiced casting, etc. The last thing you want a beginner to do is start with an artificial lure where they have to learn certain techniques to properly get the most out of their tackle. Where I live we have something called "take a kid fishing day". Most of them have never fished in their lives, and to suggest fishing with a Texas or Carolina rigged set up is well beyond the skills of a true beginner.
